Does it work with the management software I already use?

It is the first question any salon asks before looking at anything else, and rightly so: you have spent years with one program, your team knows it, and the idea of migrating is exhausting. If the new tool forces you to drop it, the conversation ends there.

The short answer is yes, but it is worth understanding through where, because "works with" means two different things and almost everyone mixes them up.

The two things people lump together

Your schedule is what changes every day: who is coming, at what time, with whom, for how long. If two systems disagree about this, you have a problem that same afternoon.

Your client records are the client base: names, phone numbers, history, preferences. It changes slowly and you do not touch it daily.

When someone says "it integrates with your program", they are usually talking about one of the two, not both. And the one that really complicates your life when it fails is the first.

The schedule: Google Calendar is the bridge

Here is the part almost nobody explains. Most salon and clinic management programs sync with Google Calendar; it is a feature they have shipped for years because their own customers asked for it.

Three questions for when they say "we integrate with everything"

It is a phrase said often and backed rarely. These three test it in a minute:

Both ways, or only one? Your appointments going out to a calendar is not the same as both sides respecting each other. If the sync goes out but not back, whatever you write in by hand does not exist for the other system, and that is where the overlaps start.

On my plan, or do I have to move up? Sometimes the integration exists, but it lives two tiers above what you were going to pay.

And if I leave one day, what do I take with me? The one people ask least, and the one that says most about whoever answers.

The way out matters more than the way in

When comparing tools, everyone looks at how you get in and almost nobody at how you get out. It should be the other way round: they all make getting in easy, because it suits them.
