Verifactu in your salon: what it is, when it arrives and how to prepare for 2027

Verifactu becomes mandatory in Spain in 2027. Clearly, what changes for a salon, the real dates and how to arrive prepared without stress.

If you run a salon in Spain, you have probably heard about Verifactu and about “having to change the invoicing program”. There is a lot of contradictory information going around, partly because the dates have been pushed back more than once. Let us make it clear and jargon-free: what it is, when it affects you and what is worth doing.

What Verifactu is, in one sentence

Verifactu is a set of requirements the Spanish Tax Agency imposes on invoicing programs so that invoices are reliable and unalterable: each invoice generates a digital fingerprint that cannot be deleted or modified afterwards, and carries a QR code. The aim is to make fraud harder. It is not a new return and it does not change how you work: it is a technical requirement on the software you use to invoice.

The dates that matter (the real ones)

The timetable has been postponed twice, which is why there is so much confusion. The dates currently in force, set by Royal Decree-Law 15/2025 (published in the BOE in December 2025), are these:

  • 1 January 2027 for companies (for example, an SL).
  • 1 July 2027 for self-employed professionals.

2026 is a voluntary testing period. In other words, there is no immediate obligation, but it is not worth leaving it to the last moment either. If you read somewhere that “Verifactu is mandatory in 2026”, that information is out of date.

Does it affect you?

It depends on how you invoice:

  • If you use a software program to invoice (a management system, a POS, etc.), Verifactu applies to you and that program will have to be adapted before your date.
  • If you invoice entirely by hand, on paper or with a receipt book, you fall outside Verifactu (although that is an increasingly impractical option).
  • There are exceptions, such as those already in the VAT SII system or in the regional regimes of the Basque Country and Navarre (which have TicketBAI).

Your business's legal form determines your date: if it is a company, January 2027; if you are self-employed, July 2027.

What you can do during 2026

The good news is that there is room. The sensible recommendation is not to rush, but to plan:

  1. Confirm your date depending on whether you are a company or self-employed.
  2. Review your current system. What do you invoice with today? Will your provider be adapted in time? Ask them directly.
  3. Use 2026 to test without pressure, instead of changing systems with the tax authority breathing down your neck in 2027.

Changing calmly now is simple and cheap. Doing it in a rush at the last minute, when every provider is overwhelmed, is not.

What role your virtual assistant plays

In a salon, invoicing does not live in isolation: it is tied to the schedule, the appointments and the payments. That is why it makes sense for the system that manages your bookings and your day to day to also cover invoicing rules.

At ClaudIA we are preparing the invoicing side in line with Verifactu so that, when your date comes, your salon is covered without having to set anything up separately. Our commitment is for Spanish regulation to be part of the product, not a last-minute add-on. You can see how ClaudIA works for beauty salons and what it handles for you today.

In the meantime, the best advice is the usual one: get informed from reliable sources — the Spanish Tax Agency's own site publishes the official note with the deadlines — and use 2026 to reach 2027 prepared and without surprises.
